Commission

I am happy to discuss any ideas for your own especially commissioned painting, print or drawing. Perhaps you have seen a picture on this site which has sparked a thought for an adaptation of a theme, or you desire a replica of a painting that has already been sold. If this is your wish, please click here to contact me.

Perhaps you have a wall that is crying out for a painting, and you are not sure about how it would go with your house décor. It is a good idea when commissioning to give me an idea of the colours (and, if necessary, other elements of your art collection) to produce the best possible picture for your home, according to your taste and preference.

Following are three examples of painting commissions:

Green Room
His Love Surrounds Us All
Storm Sacrifice

Green Room

Green Room painting This oil painting was for a couple who have set up a trust for Christians in the arts. They were inspired by a verse from Isaiah 40:31:

But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
They will run and not grow weary,
They will walk and not be faint.

They wanted two dancers in a field of ripening corn, with a sky that suggested the freedom, inspiration and lack of restrictions suggested by eagle's wings.

First of all I did some sketches and initial drawings which we emailed back and forth before I embarked on this large canvas (60x92cms). All in all it took about 2 months to complete.

His Love Surrounds Us All

His Love Surrounds Us All The lady who commissioned this piece had encountered my work already at a Stations of the Cross exhibition, and ordered a print of “Love Unknown”.

She then had an idea about a cross on a hill, whose light, representing God’s love, surrounded a number of different people, even those who ignore God. I wasn’t sure exactly what she meant at first, but the picture developed into a unique and tender oil painting as I explored different people at different stages of life.

Storm Sacrifice

Storm Sacrifice The man who commissioned this window design (in acrylic and ink on paper) was very interested in biblical symbols. This composition represents the Law given by God to the Israelites through Moses (ark of the covenant design at the bottom) fulfilled in the once-for-all sacrifice of the Lamb of God, Messiah Jesus, on the cross. There is a hint of the star of David, the symbol of Israel, dispersed throughout the whole design, covering that stormy sky – the storms of the human condition; spiritual turmoil; heart struggles. He was very happy with it.

Exploring geometry and symbols has been a life-long passion for me. The Celtic church art of Scotland and Ireland influences this area of my art, making historical references to values people on earth have held for thousands of years.

These window designs look particularly good in the part of your house which is set apart as a contemplative space. I have experimented with glass paints also. The designs I make have the potential to be transformed into stained glass windows in their own right.
